Welcome to the family hobby and sport of Radio Control Car Racing in Northern New Mexico!

Track Layouts and Photos

Overlook Raceway is the club's pride and joy. Located at Overlook Park in White Rock, New Mexico the raceway is a fully equipped with running water, electricity and a large, double-sided 6' tall drivers stand. We are very fortunate to have the County of Los Alamos sponsor the track, providing us with materials for upgrades and maintenance.

The race park consists of three tracks: 1/8th scale off-road, 1/10th scale off-road and 1/10th scale on-road. The off-road tracks have a clay surface and are wetted down before each race day. The tracks are sprayed as needed throughout the raceday. The 1/10th scale off-road track has a smoother surface and is sprayed with a sugar mixture to further enhance durability and traction.

1/8th Scale Off-Road

Expanded in April 2008, the 1/8th scale off-road course is weighs in at 120' in length and 78' across with 12 foot lanes. It offers tons of space to really let those buggies and truggies loose! Additionally, the starting gate area has been reworked and allows the course to be run clockwise or counterclockwise.

This course has it all. Features include a high speed bank off the straight, a very large two level tabletop, a large double, a large triple, a small double and a small triple. Buggies and truggies alike are getting HUGE air off the big jump!

1/10th Scale Off-Road

At six 10' lanes wide and 120' in length our 1/10th scale off-road course is a joy to drive. The track can be run clockwise or counterclockwise and is a challenge either way.

Update! - For the 2009 Outdoor Season we added some new features to the track geared specifically toward running the track clockwise. In the center of the course the rhythm section has been redone and the hairpin turn is now a wagon wheel. The small double has been enlarged a bit and the two smaller table-tops have been enhanced with the addition of entry jumps, making them doubles. Most notable is the new entry jump to the large table-top, which can easily be cleared with the 19 turn motors. The only features left alone are the small single jump and the large triple.

The most common tire used is the Pro-Line Bow Tie. The surface is packed clay, but exhibits a bit of a split personality. When the track is cleaned off and/or wetted down it has very good traction, however, once it dries out and a few heats have been run it can get rather slippery due to the dust. Sometimes this will even happen in the course of a single heat.

1/10th Scale On-Road Asphalt

The parking lot at our outdoor facilities does double duty as an on-road 1/10th scale track. The outline for the track is painted on the asphalt. The lanes are 10 feet wide and the entire course is 100' by 40'.

The surface has been holding up well but is starting to show its age. We are hoping to lay down some type of coating soon to help seal the asphalt and provide a better racing surface.

Indoor Track

Our indoor track is built using Ozite carpet and RoadRails barriers and is setup inside a school gym. The club currently owns enough carpet to create a 30' x 60' track. The lanes are typically 6' to 7.5' wide, which accomodates 1/18th and 1/12th scale well. The track will run 1/10th scale, but it is just a little bit tight, so we limit the number of cars in a heat.

We change the layout every raceday during the Winter Season. There are several standard track designs that we use but we will occasionally improvise. The possibilities are endless!
